Certificate in Supervision Studies
Fee: £987
Supervision can and should play an important role in helping practitioners to reflect on and develop the service they provide to clients. It can support those in the helping professions in their role and enhance and encourage their professional development. It is essential, therefore, that adult and youth support services incorporate supervision into their delivery plans and are clear as to its value. This programme seeks to continue to provide the opportunity for quality training for those people who will be offering supervision, either as line managers or non-line managers within youth or adult support work.
Aims of the course:
The main aim is to provide an assessed course of study to enable managers, team leaders, and supervisors from youth or adult support roles to develop a common understanding of the role of supervision within the Every Child Matters strategy. Students will review and develop their knowledge about supervision. They will learn about the theories and concepts underpinning effective supervision practice and they will develop a skills base on which to frame their interventions, thus enhancing their capabilities in facilitating a supervisory relationship. The course aims to ensure that participants who successfully complete the qualification will be capable of offering supervision within their particular organisation.
Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate and critically evaluate the functions of supervision and the role of the supervisor within different organisational and professional contexts.
- Demonstrate and critically analyse a reflective and anti oppressive approach to supervision.
- Identify a range of effective interventions and strategies to help support and develop supervisees through the supervision process.
- Critically evaluate key theoretical approaches to supervision practice.
- Deliver effective supervision through the establishment and maintenance of a professional supervision relationship.
- Evaluate own supervision practice, knowledge and skills - using appropriate analytical frameworks.
Admission criteria:
This course is validated at higher education level 2, and carries 20 credits. You will need to show evidence of being able to study at this level, which would ordinarily require a level 1 qualification or equivalent. Applicants without the required entry qualification will be considered if they have been working in a relevant job role for the past three years.
Importantly, all applicants must be engaged in supervision or about to commence by the time the course starts.
Assessment and Accreditation:
Different methods are employed in the assessment of the module including self-reflection, critical analysis of supervision practice and review of learning from the programme. Participants are encouraged to reflect and review their learning on an ongoing basis, starting with a self assessment exercise which can form part of a reflective diary and provide evidence for the assessed work.
